How much is van hire?

Our van hire prices are based on the make and model of the vehicle and the length of time you wish to hire it for. By entering these details into our ‘quick hire calculator’, you can quickly find out how much a particular van hire will cost. The calculator generates a quote and, based on this information, you can either provisionally book the vehicle online or give us a call to finalise the details. All of our van hire services are priced competitively and we offer outstanding customer service.

What do I need to rent a van?

If the van weighs 3.5 tonnes or less, you need a UK driving licence and 12 months’ driving experience. There’s no need for any special qualifications or permits. All of our vehicles, here at PSD, fall into this category – which means you can take your pick from the fleet. But just keep in mind, we only offer manual transmission van hires and you will need a full (rather than automatic) licence. We ask to see your photo card together with two proofs of address such as a bank statement or utility bill. You must be aged 25-75 and, for the £200 deposit, we require a valid debit or credit card.

Do I need insurance to hire a van?

The simple answer to this question is no. There’s no need to purchase insurance, as we include a waiver within the cost of the van hire. This waiver comes with an excess of £1500 – which means, in the event of accidental damage or theft of the vehicle, you will be expected to pay £1500. However, we do offer a couple of additional protection products to give you peace of mind – including a waiver that reduces the excess to £1000.

Do hire vans have unlimited mileage?

All of our one-day van hires come with unlimited mileage. You can travel as far and wide as you like – just make sure you fully refuel before you bring the van back to us! Weekly van hires are a little different. We offer a maximum allowance of 750 miles per week and, if you exceed this, you will be charged 14p + VAT for every extra mile that you travel. It’s not usually an issue, but if you’re planning a particularly long journey, it’s worth taking this into consideration.
