To give you an idea, here we’ve done a little research into some of IKEA’s biggest best-sellers:
The Ekedalen 4-seater extendable dining table comes in six separate boxes: two for the table itself and four for the accompanying chairs. The longest box measures around 134cm. So to bring it home comfortably, a compact van – such as a Renault Kangoo – is ideal.
This has a generous load length of 160cm and a payload of 620kg and costs just £49 to hire for a day.
A long-standing favourite amongst IKEA shoppers. BILLY comes in various sizes to suit different homes. The biggest version features 12 adjustable shelves and is supplied in two boxes – each measuring 205cm x 29cm x 13cm. Therefore, to accommodate the length of these, we’d recommend hiring a short wheelbase van – such as a Ford Transit.
This will provide ample space for the two packages, as well as any other bits and bobs you pick up in-store – whilst still being compact and easy to manoeuvre. Daily hire is available for just £59.
As one of the larger flat-pack products available at IKEA, the PAX wardrobes are supplied in 10 individual packages. The longest is 210cm long – which means, technically, they would fit inside a short wheelbase van. But with so many boxes to stack and given the hefty weight of each, it makes sense to size up and opt for a bigger van instead.
A long wheelbase – such as Peugeot Boxer or Renault Masters – will give you a little extra space for loading and unloading, without compromising on ease of use or manoeuvrability. Plus, you’ll have plenty of room for any other items you buy and it still only costs £69 for the day.
