Last-minute days out for the kids this summer holiday

The six-week holidays are almost over and the kids go back to school VERY soon, so how about squeezing in one last trip before September?

With the ongoing cost of living crisis, money is tighter than ever for many families, which means holidays abroad are probably off the cards at the moment.

However, there are plenty of fun cheap and cheerful things to get up to in the UK before it’s time for youngsters to go back to school.

Here are some of our top recommendations to end the summer holidays on a high.

Visit the animals at Chester Zoo

Are your little monkeys obsessed with giraffes, elephants, lions, and tigers? Why not let them meet some of their favourite mammals, birds and reptiles up close at Chester Zoo?

Not only is the zoo easy to find – close to the M56 and Chester city centre – but it’s pretty educational, too, providing your kids with an unforgettable experience and loads of knowledge.

An adult ticket costs £30.00 and a child is £22.72. Booking online will cost 10% less than gate prices. And if you book afternoon tickets, you can save up to 50% – giving you full access to the zoo after 2pm until closing time.

Spend the day at The Trafford Centre

Whether it be to grab a bite to eat or do a spot of last-minute shopping for school shoes and bags, The Trafford Centre has it all – not to mention a cinema, laser quest and adventure golf.

The popular Summer Daze event is also back for the summer holidays, including a huge beach and two splash parks. There are plenty of exciting rides, activities, music, and shows on offer. And the best bit is, entry to the fair is just £3 when you book online or £4 on the day!

Book a short break at Butlins

Forget waking up at the crack of dawn, long airport queues and delayed flights – get in the car and head to Butlins with the kids for a fun-filled staycation from £319!

With exciting performances and shows from Stephen Mulhern and The Masked Singer, bottomless breakfast, unlimited fairground rides, water slides, flumes and baby zones, there’s something to suit all the family.

Whether you’ll be staying at the Bognor Regis, Minehead or Skegness resort, once you take into account luggage and food supplies, the children’s car/booster seats and inflatables, the chances are you’ll have a full car. And if you only had a relatively small car in the first place, you’ll struggle to fit everyone (and everything) in.

The good news is, opting for monthly car rental will allow you to hire a model slightly bigger than your regular car – making the drive to and from Butlins much more comfortable for you all, and allowing you to pack everything you need.

Take a trip to Kenyon Hall Farm

Keeping the kids entertained for six weeks straight can be tricky.

But from navigating the winding paths of the popular ‘Maize Maze’ and strolling through the sunflower patch to picking strawberries and other fresh fruit and vegetables, there’s plenty to see and do at Kenyon Hall Farm this summer.

Located just one mile from Jct 22 of the M6 and the East Lancs Road (A580), the farm is easy to get to via car. However, you must book your tickets in advance as the farm doesn’t accept walk-in visitors.

Pitch up at Lakemoor Devon Campsite

Lakemoor offers a small slice of heaven in Devon – allowing you all to take a break from the stresses of everyday life, ready for the new school year.

You’ll find lakeside cabins and riverside camping – perfect for both glampers and campers alike – and hard standings for campervans.

At Lakemoor, you’ll have ample opportunity to wander around the tranquil meadows and go wild swimming or paddle boarding. You needn’t worry about being bored, that’s for sure!

Devon can take several hours to reach by car. If you’re worried about putting miles on your clock or you’re not sure if your motor will make the journey there and back, consider a monthly car rental.

Depending on how many of you there are and how much stuff you’ll be taking, hiring an SUV or 7-seater could be ideal – giving your passengers more leg room and providing additional boot space to accommodate the essentials (including the dog!).

Make the most of your summer with monthly car rental

Whatever you have planned for the last few weeks of the summer holidays, PSD Vehicle Rental can ensure you reach your destination safely, on time and in style.

From a nippy Kia Picanto to a medium-sized family car, like the Kia Ceed, we provide monthly car rental to suit everyone.

If you’ve managed to bag yourself a last-minute holiday in the UK before the kids go back to school, we can provide a larger model, such as the Skoda Octavia (hatchback or estate). Or if you’ve promised your children that you’ll take them and their mates to the beach, perhaps the Ford Galaxy with 7 seats will come in handy?
