4 UK road trip ideas for 2021
-
1. North Coast 500, Scotland
Known as ‘Scotland’s Route 66’, North Coast 500 is the ultimate UK road trip. In fact, it’s believed to be one of the most scenic coastal routes in the world – showcasing incredible white sand beaches, glassy lochs, heather-covered peaks, as well as fairy-tale castles, historical ruins and more.
The 500 mile loop starts and ends in Inverness and, depending on the itinerary chosen, it takes 5-7 days to complete. Just plan your journey and discover the beauty of the Scottish Highlands.
Whilst on your journey around the North Coast 500, don’t forget to take a trip to Edinburgh Zoo as that is always a family favourite, and will only add to the adventure.

2. The Atlantic Highway, England
This is one of the most picturesque road trips in the UK, passing through some of the prettiest parts of Devon and Cornwall. The ‘Atlantic Highway’ itself is a 70 mile section of the A39. Stretching from Barnstaple to Fraddon (on the outskirts of Newquay), it offers continuous breath-taking views of the Atlantic Ocean – hence the name of the trip – and takes approximately five days to complete.
Expect to see lush forests, quaint fishing villages, rugged coastline, impressive beaches and stunning countryside. And if you wish to extend the route, you can continue driving down to Land’s End.

3. The Cambrian Way, Wales
The Cambrian Way is a complete north-south route along the mountainous spine of Wales.
Starting in Cardiff, it runs for 185 miles – mainly on the A470 – up to the seaside town of Llandudno. And along the way, you’ll pass through some of the most charming spots in Wales, including the Brecon Beacons, Elan Valley and Snowdonia. Epic scenery and adventure can be found around every corner and, depending on how many times you stop, the route can take up to five days.

4. Causeway Coastal Route, Northern Island
Last but not least is the Causeway Coastal Route in Northern Ireland.
This is a jaw-dropping UK road trip steeped in myth and legend. Not only is it a super-pretty stretch of coastline, it takes in a bunch of must-see sights – including the Titanic Museum, Carrick-a-Redge Rope Bridge and the Giant’s Causeway – as well as many snappable ‘Game of Thrones’ locations.
Simply catch the ferry from Liverpool to Belfast, and travel along the coast to Derry-Londonderry. The journey is around 120 miles in total, but can be broken down into nine smaller scenic drives.
