6 things to see and do in Cheshire this autumn
There’s a slight nip in the air, the leaves are starting to fall from the trees, and we’ve had our first Pumpkin Spice Latte (or Maple Hazel Hot Choc) of the year.
Yes, autumn has officially arrived, and the promise of crisp, clear days beckons us outside, in search of things to do with our loved ones, before it’s time to nestle in and prepare for the winter chill.
With indoor and outdoor pursuits to suit all ages, Cheshire has more than its fair share of family-friendly autumnal days out – ranging from countryside walks and play opportunities to popular visitor attractions and relaxing activities.
Below, PSD Vehicle Rental share some of our top suggestions – many of which you could take advantage of our monthly car rental and ask Grandparents or friends to tag along, too!
1. Pick your own pumpkins at Kenyon Hall Farm
What better way to get into the spooky spirit than to go pumpkin picking?
With more than 15,000 pumpkins to choose from, all grown this year and priced according to their sizes, Kenyon Hall Farm guarantees a fun-filled, seasonal day out for children and adults alike.
There are plenty of pumpkin-tastic photo ops for all the family, too – not to mention beautiful displays of winter squashes in all shapes and sizes, including traditional orange, Casper white, blood red, and witchy greens.
Tickets cost £2.95 for both adults and children over 18 months of age and are on sale now until October 31st.
2. Take the kids for an action-packed day at Delamere Forest
From pedalling around the ancient woodlands on bikes to riding around on segways, whizzing down zip lines, and tackling an exhilarating high ropes course, Delamere Forest has it all.
We don’t know about you, but all this talk of activities has made us pretty ravenous…
Good to know that Delamere Forest Café is set in the hearty of the forest, where top-quality, locally sourced food (and beverages to quench your thirst) will be served throughout the day – allowing you to refuel after expending so much energy.
3. Treat yourself to a relaxing spa break
Whether you’re looking to unwind before the Christmas chaos or you’re preparing for a special occasion – be it a big birthday or wedding – Carden Park Hotel is the place to escape to, either with your other half or besties.
Offering a range of thermal features and spa treatments, both inside and out, The Spa at Carden Park Hotel is sure to ignite your senses and transport you to a world of pure opulence, warmth, and wonder – forgetting the stresses of everyday life.
When you book an autumn break, you can expect a comfortable and restful night’s sleep. And best of all? You get to wake up to exquisite views of the Cheshire countryside and Welsh hills in the distance. Bliss.
4. Wander the woodland trails at Tatton Park
With 1,000 acres of deer park to enjoy and lots of scenic routes to take with stunning viewpoints and idyllic picnic spots, a trip to Tatton Park is an absolute must if you’re looking for something wholesome to do with the kids (and dog) this autumn.
Parkland entry varies between £6.50 and £9.50 per vehicle, including National Trust members. Depending on how many of you there are, perhaps you could opt for a monthly car rental and hire a bigger model, so you can all go together (and save yourself some money for a brew and bite to eat!).
5. Visit The Ice Cream Farm
If you’ve got little ones and want to make as many memories with them as you can, before it’s no longer considered ‘cool’ for them to hang out with mum and dad, then head to one of Cheshire’s most loved tourist attractions, The Ice Cream Farm.
With more than 50 delectable flavours to choose from in the ice cream parlour, you’re bound to find yourself spoilt for choice. But that’s not all – there’s a Willy-Wonka-inspired playground, a mini golf course, a go-karting race track, an inflatable obstacle course, and bouncy castles.
If the weather is not in your favour or you’ve forgotten the kids’ wellies, don’t sweat – there’s a drive-in hatch where you can order ice cream from instead. Plus, an indoor softplay area, water and sand play zone, arcade, and disco give you plenty to do, even if it’s raining!
6. Shop till you drop at Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet
Whether you’re looking for the perfect gift for that special someone in your life or you’re getting ready for a winter break, with a huge range of designer stores in one place, Cheshire Oaks has everything you need.
Retail therapy can be the perfect pick-me-up after a hectic week. Though your purse might be a little lighter than when you left home when you factor in all the walking and bag carrying, you’re bound to be exhausted…and peckish.
Cheshire Oaks has a superb range of eateries for you to try – including popular fast-food chains like McDonalds and Five Guys, and swanky restaurants like Mowgli and Wagamama. If you just need a quick caffeine fix, Starbucks, Pret A Manger and Costa Coffee are all within easy reach, too.
